Using Agile to Deliver A New Insurance Platform
The challenge:
IBM won the tender to replace the Co-operative general insurance platform. Contracted by the platform provider to facilitate all their Agile deliveries and to provide Agile coaching to the whole program team. 1Insurer was undertaking its own Agile transformation program across the company hence the need to get external consultancy to help guide them whilst coaching the client.
Solution:
After engaging with Directors/CIO/CTO/Heads of Program to explain how Agile would fit in to a large insurer with no prior Agile experience, covering all aspects from Governance to DevOps and including Co-op’s ethical mantra which it publicly promotes, the Immediate focus was to build capability within the teams by delivering Coaching to an excess of 100 people within program teams from IBM, Co-operative, 1Insurer and Accenture in Agile methodology covering the utilization of User Story writing/mapping, testing approaches and release management.
From this we provided tender presentations to Co-operative board members prior to contract sign off to gain support and trust that IBM and their partner could deliver using agile ways of working. With a focus on Fostering collaborative relationships with Co-operative C-Suite and IBM Senior Partners, we began distributing Agile Globally with teams in Pakistan, India, Australia, UK and America saw the oversight multiple offshore Scrum teams and mentored Scrum Masters & Product Owners
We tendered, engaged then managed 3rd party suppliers (both agile and waterfall) to deliver in-line with our ways of working and the timelines required by Co-operative Insurance. Introducing new iterative reporting on delivery and budget to Director/CIO/CTO
